I, The Sky And You, The Sea

Paolo Sumayao

We took each other’s

differences

and hypothesized

the ills of our relationship.

You said I was the sky;

you, the sea,

and that the sciences rule out

that although we meet at the

receding horizon

in the eyes of someone at the shore,

we never truly met as he comes closer

and closer to the edge of that horizon.

What he, the man by the shore—

and you perhaps—do not know

is the fact that when it is too hot,

saltwater evaporates

to become rain

and through it,

we touch each other.

I, the sky,

and you, the sea.
